Schools/ Places around the world!

We want to learn about as many schools as we can over the next few weeks. Please help us out and tell us about the school you attend. Please tell us things like: What is the name of your school and your mascot? Where are you located? How many students are in your school? What "special" classes do you have (gym, art, music, etc.)? What grade levels are in your school? Is your principal a man or a woman? Do you wear a uniform? What is the best thing about your school?

If you are not a student, please tell us about where you live (city, state). Let us know what is special about your state and what the weather is like.

Bolton Bears want to know!!! Please tell us about your school or where you live!

  1. Hi, I teach on the beach!! It's the Outer Banks of North Carolina in Nags Head. Our school is 5 years old, called Nags Head Elem.
We have about 580+- children ages 4yrs-5th grade. Our principal is a woman, but we previously had a man.
We are within walking distance to the ocean and are able to go over there and do lessons and have end of the year celebrations as long as we stay out of the water. Our area is known as the Land of Beginnings. The Wright Brothers flew their first plane here in 1903, the colonist came from England around 1585-87 and so much more history in our area. Check out our school website. Dare County Schools.

  2. I love this idea! Our school is AV Baucom located in Apex, NC. We are called Baucom Buddies. Some special classes we have are gym, media center, art, music and computer. There are grades K-5. There are about 722 students. Our principal is fantastic and is a woman. We don't have to wear uniforms but the first Friday of every month is Spirit Day and you can wear your Baucom Buddy Gear! We just had Crazy Hair day on Wednesday and that was alot of fun. The teachers and parents have a great relationship and everyone is really involved in the students lives and academic progress. WE LOVE BAUCOM!

  3. Hi! My name is Bailey McMahon. I live in Oil City, PA and go to Smedley Elementary School. We have grades K-3 in our school. There are about 200 kids in my school and 24 in my class. We have missed 3 days of school this year because of snow--we get tons but its okay, I love to sled ride! My teacher is Mrs. Lemke and she is the best teacher I have ever had. My best friend at school is Emma--we love to play dolls and school together. My mommy went to school with Mrs. Lickfeld and she thinks she is a great teacher!

  4. My three children attend school at Amos. K Hutchinson Elementary school in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. There are about 600+ students that attend in grades K-5. Our school mascot is the Golden Lion and the school's motto is "The harder you work the smarter you get!".

Students at Hutchinson enjoy participating in a huge Halloween parade each October. All of the students dress up and parade around the local neighborhood. The whole community comes out to watch all of the children. Police and fire trucks block off the roads and even the teachers wear costumes.

  5. We live in Okinawa, Japan. You may have heard that we just had a 7.3 earthquake on Saturday morning! We are south of mainland Japan, in between the Pacific Ocean & the East China Sea, and part of the Ryukyu Islands.

My girls go to an American school here on the island, Amelia Earhart Intermediate School, where they are in 4th & 5th grade. Amelia Earhart was the first woman to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross, awarded for becoming the first aviatrix to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She set many other records, wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences and was instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots. During an attempt to fly around the world, she disappeared somewhere over the Pacific Ocean.

Back to our school, there are over 500 kids, mostly military kids, in grades 3rd, 4th & 5th at Amelia Earhart Intermediate. There are 9 4th grade classes and 10 5th grade classes with about 22 kids each! We have a female principal and a man vice-principal. Our school mascot is the 'Firebird.' Our school colors are red and black. We have a rotating schedule of 'specials' that include; gym, art, music & 'Culture' which just means 'Japanese.' In our culture class we learn about the Japanese culture as well as how to speak it and do fun projects like origami! We don't have 'snow' days because there is no snow here, but we do have 'typhoon days.' If a typhoon is about to hit the island, they send all the kids home from school! We start school at the end of August and go to the middle of June. the majority of our teachers are all Americans, with the exception of our Culture teachers, they're Japanese.

  6. Hi! We are in Warwick, NY. We are a little over an hour north of New York City. Our town is famous for its yearly Applefest where people come from all over to get locally grown apples and enjoy the festivities. Apple and pumpkin picking are also very popular during the fall season. A small section of Warwick called Pine Island is famous for its "black dirt region" where onions and many other veggies and fruits are farmed. We also have a locally owned creamery that makes homemade ice cream which often has a line of people waiting outside the door and a beautiful overlook of the mountains. We have spent the past few days clearing out nearly 3 feet of snow that fell in our area!!!! There are 3 ski resorts nearby. We attend a Christian preschool right now which has grades Preschool-8. The students in grades K-8 are required to wear grey, white, and maroon uniforms. We have a woman for a principal. It is a very small school with only one class per grade where everyone feels like part of a family. :)

  9. I live in New York City, and there are two elementary schools in my neighborhood that are both on the bottom few floors of high-rise apartment buildings. That means that some kids in the neighborhood go to school and live in the same building! Other children who live in the neighborhood often ride their scooters to school, and I see their parents riding the scooters home after they drop off their kids. The students who live farther away take the subway to school.
